Video invitation or invitation website: which should you send, or both?

A video invite plays the moment it lands in the chat. An invitation website waits for a tap, then holds everything. They are good at different jobs, which is why many families now send both: the link for the details, the video for Status and for the relatives who will not tap.

Invifest makes both, so we have no reason to push one over the other. Other makers' prices are from their own pages, checked on 27 October 2026.

What each one is

  • An image or PDF card. One picture or a few pages, forwarded on WhatsApp. It opens instantly, but cannot be changed once sent and collects no replies.
  • A video invitation. A short film with music, forwarded as a file or posted on Status. WedMeGood's template videos run from about 30 seconds to a minute and a half. Guests watch it inside WhatsApp, and to find a time later they scroll back and play it again.
  • An invitation website. A link that opens in the phone's browser, with every function's time and venue, a map, photos, music and a reply form. You can change it after sending, and everyone sees the new version.

When a video wins

  • On Status, Reels and Stories, where a link does not play.
  • For relatives who would rather watch than tap. One groom asked us for a screen recording of his invite for guests who could not open a website.
  • For a crowd that drifts. A bride tried her invite on ten friends, who got bored after three slides and asked for a video version.
  • On the screens at the venue, while guests arrive.
  • As the first announcement, before the full invitation with every detail goes out.

When a website wins

  • Many functions and venues: the haldi at home, the sangeet at a banquet hall, the wedding at a farmhouse, each with its own map pin.
  • Details that change. A moved muhurat or a new venue reaches everyone who already has the link, while an old video keeps circulating with the old time.
  • Replies that add up, with a headcount for each function for the caterer.
  • Guests far away, who need times, maps and a way to reply, not just a film.
  • Some guests invited to some functions, with separate links that show each group only its own.
  • After the wedding, when the link stays as a keepsake. Invifest's links have no expiry date (how long other services keep theirs).

Doing both

Make the website first, then the video from its final version. Invifest's 4K video of your invite (₹1,100) is made once from your final invite: every page coming alive in turn with your song, in 4K and in a light 720p for WhatsApp, within 3 days of the final invite. There are no changes to the film afterwards, which is exactly why it comes last. A PDF of the invite (₹1,000) covers the few printed copies for the elders and the puja.

Other makers bundle a video in different ways: PixerInvite's plans can save a 20 to 30 second vertical video of the invite, Shubh Invitation's Celebration package adds a WhatsApp video for Status and Reels, and Wedence's Signature plan includes save-the-date and invitation videos. Our comparison of 15 services has the details.

What a video cannot do

  • It cannot change after sending. If the venue moves, a new file has to go round. One groom's earlier video invite from another maker had the wrong day of the week and missing family names, and a video cannot be corrected in place.
  • Its song may be muted. Instagram, YouTube and other platforms may mute or block a song they hold rights to. That is their rule, outside anyone's control.
  • Long videos lose people. Our ideas guide puts it simply: past forty seconds, people stop before the venue appears. Put the names, date and city first.
  • It collects no replies and carries no map button. Replies come back as scattered chat messages, and someone has to count them.

If you are still deciding between paper and digital at all, our printed or digital guide does that comparison, and what an invitation website is explains the link in full. To see one, open a live demo on your phone.

Questions people ask

Is a video invitation better than a website invitation?

For announcing, a video; for details and replies, a website. Many families send both: the link carries every function, the map and the RSVP, and a short video goes on Status and to relatives who prefer watching.

Can I convert my invitation website into a video?

Yes. Invifest makes a 4K video of your finished invite for ₹1,100, from the final version, in 4K and in 720p for WhatsApp. PixerInvite's plans can also save a short video of the invite.

How long should a wedding invitation video be?

Short. Past about forty seconds, people stop before the venue appears, so put the names, the date and the city first and keep the rest for the link.

Will Instagram mute my invitation video's song?

It can. Instagram, YouTube and other platforms may mute or block a song they hold rights to, whoever made the video.

Which is better for elders, a video or a link?

It depends on the person. Some would rather watch; others read better on paper, which a PDF or a few printed cards cover. A short, plain link works for most, and a phone call works for all of them.
