Wedding function names: creative ideas for every function, and how to list two on one evening
Creative names for wedding functions that families really used, from haldi to reception, keeping the plain name under each, and two functions on one evening.

Families now give their functions names of their own, such as Glitter & Grooves for the sangeet or Phoolon ki Haldi for the haldi. Print the plain name under the creative one so elders know which function it is, keep traditional names where elders are most of the guests, and when two functions share an evening, list them as one entry with one time, one venue and one dress code.
On this page
Haldi, Mehndi, Sangeet, Reception: the same four words sit on most cards. This season, many of the families we spoke to gave at least one function a name of its own, and several put two functions into one sitting and had to decide how to write it.
Below are the names they chose, more ideas function by function, the one rule that keeps elders from getting lost, and how to list two functions together. For the functions themselves and their order, see Indian wedding functions.

Keep the plain name under the creative one
A creative name is for the couple's friends; the plain name is for everyone else. An elder who reads Glitter & Grooves on a phone wants to know one thing: is this the sangeet? So write it in two lines, the name on top and Sangeet under it. And from this season's invitations:
- Traditional names still read best with elders. Sangeet Sandhya, Phoolon ki Haldi, Shagna di Mehndi, Shubh Lagna and Aashirwad Samaroh are all names families chose this season.
- Do not over-cute it. One family changed a "Netflix Sangeet" back to plain Sangeet. Another used its local word for the music night only on its printed card.
- Mind the space. A long English name may not fit beside a Hindi or Marathi one on a small screen. Two to four words fit best.
- A name can belong to one side. Nani ka Ghar, one family's name for its mayra and mehendi afternoon, was dropped from the groom's version of the invitation.
Two functions on one evening
Several families this season put two functions into one sitting, most often an evening: an engagement and a sangeet fifteen minutes apart, a mehndi with a cocktail, a ring ceremony with a cocktail, a tilak with a sangeet, a haldi with a carnival, and pheras folded into the reception. On the invitation, it should read as one outing, not two:
| The two functions | On the invitation |
|---|---|
| Engagement and sangeet | Engagement & Sangeet · Ring ceremony at [time], Sangeet from [time] |
| Mehndi and cocktail | One name for the evening · Mehndi from [time], Cocktails from [time] |
| Ring ceremony and cocktail | Ring Ceremony & Cocktails · from [time] |
| Tilak and sangeet | Tilak & Sangeet · Tilak at [time], Sangeet from [time] |
| Haldi and carnival | Haldi Carnival · from [time] |
| Pheras and reception | Wedding & Reception · Pheras at the muhurat, [time]; Reception from [time] |
- One venue and one map.
- One dress code. "Dono ka same dress code" was how one family put it, for an engagement and a sangeet fifteen minutes apart.
- One reply. Guests answer once for the evening, so the caterer gets one number.
An afternoon can carry three. One bride's side listed it as a single line: "Satsang & Kirtan, Bangle ceremony followed by Ladies Sangeet".
How Invifest puts the names on the invitation
Invifest makes invitations and guest management for weddings and every big moment: our designers make each family its own invitation website, and every function is set the way you name it.
- A card for each function, in your words. The name you chose, the plain name under it, the date, time and venue with a map button, and the dress code.
- Art that matches the name. Add a caricature of the two of you, and each function gets its own drawing in its own colours, in yellow for the haldi and dancing on the sangeet card. Or choose a design whose art shows the couple without faces.
- Two functions, one card. One time, one map, one dress code, and one reply for the evening.
- Each name in Hindi and English. संगीत संध्या in the Hindi view and Sangeet Sandhya in the English, with one tap between them.
- The after party stays with the friends. Each guest sees only the functions they are invited to, on a link for each side or group, or on a personal link for every guest with Aangan, which also counts the replies for each function.
- Rename it any time. A new name goes on the same link, even after sending. On the private review link we can send with the first version, tap the title and type the new name or say it.
- Ready in days. The first version arrives within 3 days of your complete details, or in under 24 hours on request, and opens on any phone from WhatsApp, with no app and no login.

Questions people ask
What are some creative names for wedding functions?
Families this season used Glitter & Grooves and Dance Floor Fever for the sangeet, Colour Pop and Henna & Dhol for the mehndi, Phoolon ki Haldi and Petal Shower for the haldi, Forever Begins for the wedding and Meet the Newlyweds for the reception. Print the plain name under whichever you choose.
What can we name the haldi ceremony?
Phoolon ki Haldi when petals are part of it, Poolside Haldi, Haldi Hai, Peeli Dopahar, The Yellow Affair or Golden Hour Haldi. If it is a day party with games, families call it a Haldi Carnival.
What are good names for a sangeet night?
Sangeet Sandhya or Shaam-e-Sangeet for a traditional evening; Glitter & Grooves, Dance Floor Fever, Sham Shaandar or Sangeet and The Band for a party. Keep Sangeet written under a party name.
Should we print the traditional name as well?
Yes. Elders read the plain name to know which function it is. Put the creative name on top and Sangeet, Mehndi or Haldi under it.
Can the engagement and the sangeet be on the same evening?
Yes, and several families did it this season. On the invitation, make it one entry: one name, the ring ceremony's time and then the sangeet's, one venue, one map and one dress code.
How do we write two functions on one invitation card?
Join them in the title, such as Mehndi & Cocktail, give the first start time and then the second, and keep one venue, one map and one dress code. Guests reply once for the evening.
Do elders mind fancy function names?
Not when the plain name is there too. Where elders are most of the guests, traditional names such as Sangeet Sandhya, Shubh Lagna and Aashirwad Samaroh still read best.
Can the function names be in Hindi?
Yes. Names like Sangeet Sandhya, Phoolon ki Haldi and Aashirwad Samaroh read well in Devanagari, and an invitation with a Hindi and English switch carries each name in both scripts.
Can we change a function's name after the invitation is sent?
On an invitation link, yes: the name changes on the same link, and everyone who opens it sees the new one. On a printed card it means a reprint.
What should the reception be called on the card?
Reception, or on a Hindi card Aashirwad Samaroh evam Swaruchi Bhoj, a blessing ceremony and a buffet dinner. Families who want something lighter call it Meet the Newlyweds.
