Bhoomi pujan invitation card and messages in Hindi, English, Marathi and Gujarati
Bhoomi pujan invitation card wording and WhatsApp messages in Hindi, English, Marathi and Gujarati, with what to put on the card and when to send it.

A bhoomi pujan invitation asks people to the puja held on your plot before building begins. Put the family's name, the day, the date and the muhurat (usually a morning), the plot's address with a map pin dropped on the plot itself, and what follows the puja, such as prasad or breakfast. Send it about a week ahead. Wording to copy in Hindi, English, Marathi and Gujarati is below.
On this page
A bhoomi pujan is the first function of a house that does not exist yet. The guests stand on an empty plot, often in a new colony that the maps barely know, at a time the priest picked from the panchang, and the invitation is how they find it.
This page covers what the puja is and how it differs from a shilanyas and a griha pravesh, who to invite, what the card needs, and wording to copy in Hindi, English, Marathi and Gujarati, for a home and for a factory, an office or a temple.
What a bhoomi pujan is
Bhoomi pujan (भूमि पूजन, also written bhumi pujan or bhoomi puja) is the puja performed on a plot before construction starts. The family asks Bhoomi Devi, the earth, and the Vastu Purush, the spirit of the site, for their blessing before the ground is dug. It is held at a muhurat the priest fixes from the panchang, usually in the morning, and most often at the north-east corner of the plot, the Ishan kon. What usually happens, in order:
- Ganesh pujaGanesh is worshipped first, to clear the way, and a kalash is set up.
- The sankalpThe owner, often with their spouse, takes the vow for the house that is about to be built.
- Puja of the earthBhoomi Devi and the Vastu Purush are worshipped, and in many families Sheshnag, the serpent said to hold up the earth.
- The first digA small pit is dug. A kalash, coins and, in some families, a small silver snake go into it.
- The first bricksIf the foundation stone is laid the same morning, this is the shilanyas: the first bricks or the stone go into the pit.
- Aarti and prasadThe puja ends with an aarti, and prasad goes round to everyone present, the workers included. Some families add a havan.
Bhoomi pujan, shilanyas and griha pravesh
| Bhoomi pujan | Shilanyas | Griha pravesh | |
|---|---|---|---|
| When | Before any digging, on the empty plot | When the foundation stone is laid, often the same morning as the bhoomi pujan | When the finished house is entered for the first time |
| What happens | Puja to the earth and the Vastu Purush, and the first dig | The first bricks or the stone of the foundation are laid | Entering at the muhurat, a Ganesh and Vastu puja, often a havan, and milk boiled over in the new kitchen |
| Also called | Bhumi pujan; भूमिपूजन in Marathi; ભૂમિ પૂજન in Gujarati; bhoomi poojai in Tamil | Foundation stone laying; ખાતમુહૂર્ત (khaat muhurat) in Gujarati; shankusthapana in Telugu | Vastu shanti in Maharashtra; gruhapravesam in the south; housewarming |
If you have bought a flat, there is no bhoomi pujan of your own to hold: the builder usually holds one for the whole project, and your puja comes when you move in, at the griha pravesh.
Who to invite
A bhoomi pujan is a short morning puja on open ground, so keep the list to the people who would want to see the first brick laid.
- Family first. Parents and grandparents, brothers and sisters with their families. Call the elders before the message goes.
- The people who will build it. The architect, the engineer, the contractor and the mistri are often there anyway. Inviting them properly is a good start to a long job.
- The neighbours. The families on either side of the plot will live next to the construction for months. A bhoomi pujan is a friendly way to meet them before the first truck of sand arrives.
- For a business, the staff, partners and clients, and a chief guest if someone will lay the foundation stone.
What to put on a bhoomi pujan invitation card
- The opening. ॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥ or Shree Ganeshaya Namah, as on most puja cards.
- Who invites. The family by name, or the firm, the trust or the committee.
- What it is. Bhoomi pujan, or bhoomi pujan and shilanyas if the foundation stone is laid the same day.
- The day, the date and the muhurat. One time to arrive by, a little before the puja starts.
- The plot, with a map pin. A new plot often has no house number yet, so give the plot number, the colony or layout, a landmark, and a map pin dropped while standing on the plot.
- What follows. Prasad only, breakfast or lunch, so guests know whether to eat before they leave home.
- The practical lines. An open plot may have no shade and no chairs, the ground may be rough, and shoes come off near the puja. One line saves the elders a hard morning.
- A reply, if you are arranging food and need a headcount.
When to send it
Send it as soon as the priest fixes the muhurat, ideally a week before. Relatives who have to travel need more notice, so call them the day the date is fixed. The evening before, send a short reminder with only the time and the location pin.
A bhoomi pujan starts on time, because it is tied to the muhurat. Say so gently on the card: 'Please come by [time], the puja begins at [time].' Our guide to sending invitations on WhatsApp covers sending from your own number to a long list.
For a factory, an office or a temple
| A home | A factory or office | A temple or community building | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who invites | The family, by name | The company, signed by its head | The trust or the committee |
| Who is invited | Family, close friends, neighbours | Staff, partners, clients and a chief guest | Devotees, members and well-wishers |
| What the card adds | The plot and what follows the puja | The chief guest, the project's name, a reply line | The project, the committee's name, the prasad |
| Tone | Warm and personal | Formal | Devotional and open to all |
A company card usually names a chief guest who performs the shilanyas: 'by the hands of' in English, 'के कर-कमलों द्वारा' in Hindi. If the chief guest is a public figure, confirm their time before the card is printed, and agree with the priest what happens if they are running late, because the muhurat will not move for anyone.
Sending it as one link
An image card is easy to forward, but on a morning when twenty people are trying to find an empty plot, a link does more: the muhurat, a map pin that opens straight in Google Maps, the family's names, and a reply form for the headcount, in the language your family reads.
At Invifest, our designers make each family its own invitation website. Andaaz is our design for a griha pravesh, the day you move in. For a bhoomi pujan, we make the invitation as a custom design, in Hindi, English, Marathi or Gujarati. For the pujas that come with a new home, the Griha Pravesh and Satyanarayan Puja guides have wording of their own.

Questions people ask
What should be written on a bhoomi pujan invitation card?
Shree Ganeshaya Namah at the top, the family's name, 'Bhoomi Pujan' (and 'Shilanyas' if the foundation stone is laid that day), the day, date and muhurat, the plot's address with a map pin, and what follows the puja, such as prasad or breakfast. Add a reply line if you need a headcount for food.
How do I write a bhoomi pujan invitation in Hindi?
Open with ॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥, then write: ईश्वर की असीम कृपा से हमारे नए घर का निर्माण आरंभ हो रहा है। इस शुभ अवसर पर भूमि पूजन का आयोजन किया गया है। Add the day, the muhurat and the plot's address, invite guests with आप सपरिवार पधारकर अपना आशीर्वाद दें, and sign with विनीत and your family's name. The full card is on this page with a Copy button.
What is a good bhoomi puja invitation message in English?
Keep it short and give the facts: 'We are starting work on our new home, and the bhoomi pujan is at the plot on Sunday at 9 am. Please come with your family and bless the beginning.' Add the location pin, and say whether prasad or breakfast follows.
How do I write a bhumi pujan invitation card in Marathi or Gujarati?
In Marathi the puja is भूमिपूजन, and the card says आमच्या नियोजित वास्तूचे भूमिपूजन, with the day and time, then asks guests to come सहकुटुंब सहपरिवार. In Gujarati it is ભૂમિ પૂજન, often with ખાતમુહૂર્ત (khaat muhurat), the ceremony that starts the digging for the foundation, and the card asks આપ સહકુટુંબ પધારી આશીર્વાદ આપશો. Both full cards are on this page with a Copy button.
What is the difference between bhoomi pujan and griha pravesh?
Bhoomi pujan is held on the empty plot before construction begins. Griha pravesh is held when the finished house is entered for the first time. Shilanyas, the laying of the foundation stone, comes in between, often on the same morning as the bhoomi pujan.
What time is bhoomi pujan done?
At the muhurat your priest fixes from the panchang, which is usually in the morning. Print the time the puja starts, and ask guests to arrive a little before it.
When should I send the bhoomi pujan invitation?
As soon as the muhurat is fixed, ideally about a week before. Call the elders first, and send a reminder the evening before with the time and the location pin.
Who should be invited to a bhoomi pujan?
Close family, a few friends, the neighbours next to the plot, and the people who will build the house: the architect, the engineer and the contractor. A company adds its staff, partners and a chief guest for the shilanyas.
