Diwali and Lakshmi Puja invitation messages: for family, friends and the office
Diwali 2026 and Lakshmi Puja invitation messages in Hindi and English, for a puja at home, a shop or office, or a Diwali milan, with the 8 November muhurat.

Diwali's Lakshmi Puja falls on Sunday, 8 November 2026, and Drik Panchang gives the muhurat for New Delhi as 5:54 pm to 7:50 pm (it shifts by city). Put the time your puja starts and when to arrive on the invitation, give dinner its own time, and send it about a week ahead, because everyone you invite is hosting that evening too. Messages in Hindi and English to copy are below.

On Diwali evening almost every family you would invite is doing its own Lakshmi Puja at the same hour. That shapes the invitation: who comes to the puja, who comes for dinner after it, and whether the get-together belongs on another day altogether.
This page has the 2026 date and the muhurat for your city, what to put on the invitation, how it changes for a shop, an office or a Diwali milan, and messages in Hindi and English you can copy.
Diwali 2026: the date and the Lakshmi Puja muhurat
Lakshmi Puja falls on Sunday, 8 November 2026. Drik Panchang gives the muhurat for New Delhi as 5:54 pm to 7:50 pm, inside Pradosh Kaal, which runs from 5:31 pm to 8:09 pm. Amavasya begins at 11:27 am that Sunday and ends at 12:31 pm on Monday, 9 November. For families who keep the puja late at night, the Mahanishita muhurat is 11:39 pm to 12:31 am.
The muhurat moves with sunset, so it is not the same everywhere. These are Drik Panchang's timings for other cities, each in local time:
| City | Lakshmi Puja muhurat |
|---|---|
| New Delhi | 5:54 pm to 7:50 pm |
| Noida | 5:54 pm to 7:49 pm |
| Gurgaon | 5:55 pm to 7:51 pm |
| Chandigarh | 5:52 pm to 7:46 pm |
| Jaipur | 6:03 pm to 7:59 pm |
| Kolkata | 5:20 pm to 7:18 pm |
| Mumbai | 6:27 pm to 8:27 pm |
| Pune | 6:24 pm to 8:24 pm |
| Ahmedabad | 6:22 pm to 8:20 pm |
| Hyderabad | 6:07 pm to 8:08 pm |
| Bengaluru | 6:17 pm to 8:20 pm |
| Chennai | 6:07 pm to 8:09 pm |
The days around it, from Drik Panchang's 2026 Diwali calendar for New Delhi:
| Day | What falls on it |
|---|---|
| Thursday, 5 November | Govatsa Dwadashi, Vasu Baras |
| Friday, 6 November | Dhanteras |
| Saturday, 7 November | Kali Chaudas, Hanuman Puja |
| Sunday, 8 November | Naraka Chaturdashi, Lakshmi Puja and Diwali, Chopda Puja, Kali Puja |
| Tuesday, 10 November | Govardhan Puja and Annakut, the Gujarati New Year |
| Wednesday, 11 November | Bhai Dooj |
Who to invite to the puja, and who to the evening
Lakshmi Puja is a family puja, done at home at the muhurat. At that hour most of the people you would invite are doing their own, so a Diwali invitation is really one of three things:
- The puja itself, for close family. Grandparents, a married daughter's family, the relatives who come every year. They need the start time and when to arrive, because nobody joins a puja halfway through.
- The evening after it, for friends and neighbours. Prasad, dinner, diyas and sweets, from an hour or two after the muhurat, when their own pujas are done.
- A get-together on another day. Dhanteras, the days after Diwali or the next weekend. This is where a Diwali milan, a card party or a society dinner usually sits, and more people can come.
If one message goes to both groups, give the puja and the dinner a line each, so a friend does not walk in during the aarti. The wording below has a version that does exactly that.
What to put on a Diwali puja invitation
- The day and the date, not just 'on Diwali'. Families keep different evenings of the festival, and the weekday removes the doubt.
- The time the puja starts, and when to arrive. One time each: 'puja at 6:00 pm, please come by 5:45'.
- What follows, and when. Prasad only, or dinner. Guests decide from this whether to eat before they come.
- The address, with a map pin of your gate. Roads are crowded on Diwali evening, and a lane or a tower is harder to find after dark.
- A reply, if you are cooking. Ask for a headcount for the dinner. For the puja alone you rarely need one.
- Anything guests should know: children welcome, where to park, or that you are keeping it a quiet evening without crackers.
At home, at the shop or office, and a Diwali milan
| At home | Shop or office | Diwali milan | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who invites | The family, by name | The owner, the firm or the head of the team | A housing society, a community or an office |
| Who is invited | Family, friends, neighbours | Staff and their families, customers, business friends | Members and their families |
| What to list | Puja time, arrival time, dinner | Puja time, where in the premises, what follows | Date, place, the programme, dinner |
| When | Diwali evening, at the muhurat | Diwali for a shop's account-book puja; a working day before it for an office | The days or weeks after Diwali |
| Tone | Personal and warm | Formal, signed by the firm | Open and festive |
Trading families worship their new account books at Diwali: Chopda Pujan in Gujarati shops and homes, bahi-khata puja in the north. Drik Panchang lists the Chopda Puja on Sunday, 8 November, with auspicious slots through the day and evening, and the Gujarati New Year on Tuesday, 10 November. Gujarati communities often follow the new year with a sneh milan, a get-together to exchange wishes.
Diwali is a Sunday in 2026, so an office puja on a working day falls on Friday, 6 November, which is also Dhanteras, or Saturday, 7 November. Send it to the team a week ahead, with the time, the place in the office, whether families are welcome and what comes after.
Lakshmi Puja in Bengal, and Deepavali in the south
In most Bengali homes the Lakshmi Puja that neighbours are invited to is the Kojagari Lakshmi Puja, on the full moon after Durga Puja: in 2026 it fell on Sunday, 25 October, by Drik Panchang. Diwali night in Bengal is Kali Puja, performed around midnight, and it falls on 8 November this year.
In Tamil Nadu, Deepavali is the morning of Naraka Chaturdashi, which begins with an oil bath before dawn, and Drik Panchang lists Tamil Deepavali on the same Sunday in 2026. If your family celebrates in the morning, put the morning on the invitation, and keep the evening line out of it.
When to send it
About a week before: by Sunday, 1 November for a puja on 8 November. Diwali week fills fast, with every family hosting, visiting and shopping at once. Call the elders first, then send the link, and send a short reminder the day before with only the start time and the map. For a Diwali milan after the festival, ten days to two weeks ahead is kinder, because people are travelling.
A link travels better than a forwarded image: it opens on any phone, carries the map, and if the time moves you change it once and everyone sees the new time. Our guide to sending invitations on WhatsApp covers sending from your own number, a few people at a time.
A Diwali invitation as a link
We make invitation websites mostly for weddings, and for pujas at home: Darshan is our Ganpati invitation, and this year one family's Satyanarayan puja invitation went out in Marathi only, with no English on it at all. We do not have a Diwali design. If you would like your Lakshmi Puja or Diwali milan as a link, with the muhurat, the address on a map, your family's photographs and a reply form for the headcount, ask us on WhatsApp and we will make it as a custom invitation, in Hindi, English or both, quoted before you pay.
For the other pujas at home, the Satyanarayan Puja, Griha Pravesh and Ganpati guides have wording of their own.

Questions people ask
When is Diwali Lakshmi Puja in 2026?
On Sunday, 8 November 2026. Drik Panchang gives the Lakshmi Puja muhurat as 5:54 pm to 7:50 pm in New Delhi, 6:27 pm to 8:27 pm in Mumbai, 6:17 pm to 8:20 pm in Bengaluru and 5:20 pm to 7:18 pm in Kolkata. Confirm the time with your own pandit before you print it.
What should a Diwali puja invitation say?
The day and the date, the time the puja starts and when to arrive, whether prasad or dinner follows and when, the address with a map pin of your gate, and a way to reply with a headcount if you are cooking. Open with Shubh Deepawali or Shree Ganeshaya Namah, and sign with your family's name.
How do I write a Lakshmi Puja invitation in Hindi?
Add the day, the puja time and the address, and close with विनीत and your family's name. The full message is on this page, with a Copy button.
How many days before Diwali should I send the invitation?
About a week before: for a puja on 8 November 2026, by 1 November. Diwali week fills quickly and most of your guests are hosting too. Send a short reminder the day before, with the start time and the map.
How do I invite employees to an office Diwali puja?
A week ahead, from the person the team hears from most, with the date, the puja time, where in the office it is held, whether families are welcome and what follows, such as lunch. Diwali is a Sunday in 2026, so an office puja on a working day falls on Friday 6 or Saturday 7 November.
What is a Diwali milan?
A get-together in the days or weeks after Diwali, usually held by a housing society, a community or an office, with wishes and dinner rather than a puja. Gujarati communities often hold a sneh milan after their new year.
Can I make a Diwali invitation online with RSVP?
Yes. An image card is the quickest, but it cannot carry a map or collect replies. An invitation link can do both, and it can be corrected after you send it. Invifest has no ready Diwali design; we make one as a custom invitation, quoted on WhatsApp before you pay.
