Caricature wedding invitation: what photos to send, how to get the faces right, and when to skip it
A caricature wedding invitation draws you both from your photos into every function. Which photos to send, the face fixes families ask for, and when to skip it.

A caricature wedding invitation shows the two of you drawn as characters from your own photos, placed in every function: haldi, sangeet, varmala. The likeness depends on what you send: one or two close, front-facing face photos each, in daylight, sent as files. A face that looks wrong is redrawn from those photos in a round of changes. Families who want no faces choose a design without them.
On this page
On our calls with families this October, nearly half talked about caricatures. Some wanted the two of them everywhere: on every function, on the front page, even on the seal. Many sent a drawing back at least once because a face or a body did not look right. Several said they wanted nothing that "looks AI".
So this page is about likeness, plainly. Which photos make a caricature look like you, what families sent back and what fixed it, an outfit for each function, when to leave faces out, and how we make ours.
What a caricature wedding invitation is
A caricature wedding invitation draws the bride and groom as characters, from their own photos, and then poses them in each function: exchanging rings, with haldi on their cheeks, dancing at the sangeet, at the varmala, at the vidaai. Each function's card gets its own scene in its own colours, so guests see the two of you at every step of the wedding.
The poses are drawn, not photographed. "Ye photography thodi hai", as it was put on one of our calls: you do not need a photo of yourselves in each outfit. One good photo of each face is drawn into every scene. Styles run from a face-matched drawing that stays close to your real face to a cute cartoon with big eyes and simple shapes.
The photos to send
Likeness is decided before anyone draws, by the photos. These are the ones that worked:
- One or two close-up face photos of each of you, looking at the camera, in daylight. The face should fill most of the frame.
- Sent as a file, as a WhatsApp Document or by email. A photo sent the normal way on WhatsApp is compressed, and the small details of a face are the first thing lost.
- Not a night shot, not a passport photo. Party lights change skin colour, and a passport photo is flat and stiff.
- No sunglasses and no beauty filter. A filter makes skin fairer and faces thinner, and the drawing copies it.
- A full-length photo of each of you, if you want your build drawn as it is. Without one the body is guessed, and families sent back drawings with an idealised body that was not theirs.
- A closed-mouth smile, if you do not like your teeth in pictures. An open-mouth smile with teeth was one of the things families sent back.
- With and without glasses, if he wears them only some of the time. Say at which functions he wears them.
What families sent back, and what fixed it
Even with good photos, the first drawing is not always right. These are the changes families asked for on their caricatures this season, and what fixed each one:
| The problem | What fixed it |
|---|---|
| The face looks like someone else ("face change lag raha hai") | Redrawing the face from the original photos, not patching the drawing |
| An open-mouth smile with teeth in every scene | The same face with a closed-mouth smile |
| Skin drawn fairer than it is | Colour matched to the daylight photo |
| Colours too dark, or cheeks too pink | Softer, natural colours |
| An idealised body, not the real one | Drawing it again from a full-length photo |
| Hair showing outside the groom's safa | The hair tucked in, the safa sitting the way it is tied |
| A tilted neck | A straight, natural pose |
| The same outfits on two different days | A different outfit for each function |
| A bindi on the bride in a bachelorette party scene | Taken off, as the family asked |
Two habits keep these rounds short. First, approve the two of you drawn on your own, before you are placed in every scene, so a face is fixed once and not scene by scene. Second, send every change about the faces together, in one list, from one person in the family.
If the worry is that it will "look AI", judge the style before the face. Ask to see one face first, in the style you have chosen. If no style feels like you, leave the faces out; nobody has to have a caricature.
An outfit for every function
A caricature invitation is a set of scenes, and families care most about the clothes in each. Tell the designer what each of you will actually wear, or the function's colour:
| Function | The scene | What to tell the designer |
|---|---|---|
| Engagement or ring ceremony | The two of you with the rings | The colours you will wear |
| Haldi | Haldi on your cheeks | The haldi's colour theme, if it has one: lavender, for one family |
| Sangeet or cocktail | Dancing | Indo-Western or traditional, as you will wear it |
| Baraat | The groom in his safa or sehra | How the safa is tied, and no hair outside it |
| Pheras and varmala | Under the mandap, the varmala | Traditional outfits, in the colours of the lehenga and the sherwani |
| Every function | The groom's glasses | Only on the functions where he wears them |
When to skip the caricature
- Temple and heritage designs. An invitation built around Radha-Krishna, Shrinathji or a temple has the deity at its centre, and a cartoon couple sits oddly beside it.
- Elders who will not like it. If you can already hear your grandmother say "ye kya cartoon bana diya", show her one face before every scene is drawn, or choose a design without faces.
- The photo gallery. Keep real photos there. A caricature among real photos "comedy lagega", as it was put on one of our calls: it looks like a joke.
Families who want no faces at all have good choices: a seal with your initials, a deity theme or your venue. Our guide to a wedding invitation without photos shows each one.
How Invifest makes a caricature invitation
- You on every ceremony card. Our caricature add-on draws the two of you from your photos and places you in every ceremony on your invitation, in that ceremony's colours. It is offered on our wedding and engagement designs.
- One style, chosen first. A cartoon, a 3D animated look or a painted anime look, chosen once before we begin.
- Made with AI tools, finished by our designers. We make it with AI image tools from your photos, and our designers check and finish every face. If you would rather your photos were not used with AI tools, tell us before we start, and we make that art another way or leave it out.
- Changes to the drawing. The caricature has a round of changes of its own, besides the two rounds every invitation includes.
- Point at the face and say it. On the designs that have it, your first version comes with a private review link: circle the face, say what is wrong in Hindi or English, or type it, and the change reaches our designers with the exact spot.
- A theme made for it. Sindoori's Playful theme is for couples who say "Draw us as cartoons".
- Everything else on the same link. Every function with its date, time, venue and map, a reply form (where the design has one) in which guests choose their functions, and a separate link for the other family if each side invites its own guests.
- Ready in 3 days. The caricature comes inside your invitation: the first version within 3 days of your complete details for most designs, or in under 24 hours on request.
Want it to move? The finished invitation, caricatures and all, can be made into a 4K film with your song and a light copy for WhatsApp. Here is a sample video of an invitation made this way.

Questions people ask
What is a caricature wedding invitation?
An invitation that shows the bride and groom drawn as characters, made from their own photos, in a scene for each function: the ring ceremony, haldi, sangeet, varmala and vidaai. It can be a card, a video, or an invitation website with a scene on every function's card.
Caricature ke liye kitni photos bhejni hain?
One or two close-up, front-facing face photos of each of you, in daylight, sent as files (a WhatsApp Document or email), and one full-length photo each if you want your build drawn as it is. Avoid night shots, passport photos, sunglasses and beauty filters.
Why does my caricature not look like me?
Usually because of the photo: a night shot, a filter, a side angle, or a photo WhatsApp has compressed. Send a close daylight photo as a file and ask for the face to be redrawn from it, not patched. At Invifest the caricature has a round of changes of its own.
Can the caricature keep my real skin tone?
Yes, and say so when you send the photos. "Match my complexion" was one of the first changes families asked us for, and one line about your skin tone in the first message saves a round.
Is a caricature invitation made with AI?
Many are. Ours are made with AI image tools from your photos and finished by our designers, and our Terms say so. If you would rather your photos were not used with AI tools, tell us before we start: we make that art another way or leave it out.
Can we wear different outfits for each function?
Yes. Tell the designer what each of you will wear, or the function's colour: a lavender haldi, Indo-Western at the cocktail, traditional at the pheras. The same outfit drawn on two days is one of the things families send back.
Can I get a caricature wedding invitation video?
Yes. At Invifest the finished invitation, with your caricature on every ceremony card, can be made into a 4K film with your song, with a light copy for WhatsApp.
Can I make a caricature invitation myself with ChatGPT or Gemini?
You can turn a photo into a cartoon with an AI app. The hard part is keeping the same face across five or six scenes, and text inside AI pictures is often misspelt. Our AI wedding invitation guide compares the tools and the checks to run.
Should the caricature go in the photo gallery too?
No. Keep real photos in the gallery and the caricature in the function scenes. A cartoon among real photos looks like a joke.
How long does a caricature invitation take?
At Invifest the caricature comes inside your invitation: the first version within 3 days of your complete details for most designs, or in under 24 hours on request, and then your rounds of changes.
