An engagement invitation online can be three different things: a card your family forwards on WhatsApp, a short video, or a link with the roka, the sagai and the dinner on it, each with its time, a map and a reply button. Here is where to make each one in India, what it costs on the maker's own page, and what an engagement needs that a wedding invitation does not.

We make Invifest, so one option below is ours and it is marked; weigh our view with that in mind. Every other fact comes from that company's own pages, read on 27 October 2026. What to write on the invitation, roka, sagai and tilak wording and the WhatsApp messages, is in our engagement invitation wording guide. This page is about where and how to make it.

Card, video or website: which one an engagement needs

Most engagements are smaller and closer than the wedding, so the format can be simpler. Choose by how many rituals there are, who is travelling, and whether you need a headcount.

Notes on the table. Desievite's engagement page says friends can RSVP to your invite, while its FAQ says it provides "digital e-cards only (JPEG or video file)", so ask before you count on replies. Shubh Invitation and Invity offered festive discounts that day. Some lists recommend WedMeGood for engagement cards; on 27 October its invitation maker listed wedding cards, video cards and save the date cards, and we found no engagement section in it.

If you want the free route only, our guide to free wedding invitation makers has the watermarks, link lives and catches of the free tools in more detail, and they apply to an engagement just as well.

What an engagement invitation needs that a wedding one does not

  • Every ritual, by name and time. Roka, sagai, tilak, chunni chadhana, the ring ceremony: many families now hold two or three in one afternoon or evening. Name each one with its own time, so relatives know what they are coming for and whether to bring shagun. Which ritual is which is explained in our wording guide.
  • The word engagement, on every screen. Many templates were made for weddings. One family's details reached us titled as a wedding invitation when the only date on them was the engagement. Read the opening, the date reveal, the countdown and the reply form for the word wedding before you send it.
  • Room to leave things out. One family asked us for a roka invitation with a single event, no photographs and no reply form: the guests were close family, and phone calls did the rest. A good maker lets you switch sections off instead of filling them for the sake of it.
  • Both families, if both are inviting. The roka is often the bride's family's, the tilak the groom's, the ring ceremony both. When each side sends its own invitation, each needs its own names first.
  • What comes next. Once the wedding date is fixed, the save the date is the next message, and the wedding invitation follows it.

Making one yourself, step by step

  1. Pick the formatA card if it is one ritual for close family. A link if there are several rituals, guests from other cities, or you want a headcount.
  2. Write the words firstBoth names in the order your families use, who is hosting, each ritual with its time, and the venue. Our wording guide has lines to copy in English and Hindi.
  3. Search the maker for the right wordsTry engagement, ring ceremony, roka, sagai and sakharpuda: some makers file their best designs under the regional name.
  4. Check it on an ordinary phoneOpen it from a WhatsApp message on an older phone, and have someone who reads Hindi well check every Hindi line.
  5. Send it from the right phoneParents to the elders, the couple to their friends, with one warm line and the card or the link.

Invifest's engagement design, and what can come with it (ours)

We have one engagement design, Morpankh. It opens on a single peacock feather glowing in the dark, then into a kunj with Radha and Krishna and a ring going onto a mehendi-covered hand. Each ritual gets its own card, the roka, the tilak, the sagai or the ring ceremony, with its time, the venue, a map button and a reply form. You can open it as a live demo on your phone before you choose.

Our designers make it by hand from the details you send on WhatsApp. The first version arrives within 3 days of complete details, two rounds of changes are included, and the link has no expiry date. If Morpankh is not your style, a custom design is drawn for your idea and quoted before you pay.

These add-ons are offered on engagement designs as well as wedding ones:

  • A link for the other family, in the same design, with their names first and only their functions.
  • A matching Save the Date, a one-screen version of your design with your names, the date and the city, for when the wedding date is fixed.
  • Your caricature in the festivities, a drawing of the two of you made from your photos with the help of AI image tools and finished by our designers, on every ceremony card.
  • Wedding Wardrobe, a designed PDF style guide with a page for each function, its colours and what suits the women and the men (see a sample).

Every add-on's price is on the pricing page.

When a free card is enough

For a roka with twenty close relatives, a free card from Canva, Crafty Art, Desievite or Kalyan Co, and a call to each family, is enough. Nobody needs a map to their own cousin's house.

A link earns its place when there are several rituals at different times, guests travelling from other cities, a caterer waiting for a headcount, or a date or venue that might still move. Then one link that you can correct after sending saves you from a second round of forwards.

Questions people ask

Where can I make an engagement invitation online for free?

Canva, Crafty Art, Desievite and Kalyan Co make free engagement cards, and Kalyan Co needs no sign-up. For a free link with replies, Invity's free plan lasts 7 days with its watermark, and Shubh Invitation has a free engagement design. Free versions usually carry a mark or a limit, so check before you send.

Can I make a roka or sagai invitation online?

Yes. Shubh Invitation has a roka section beside its engagement designs, Crafty Art and Desievite have roka, sagai, tilak and sakharpuda designs, and an invitation website can give each ritual its own time and card. For the words, see our engagement and roka wording guide.

Is a video or a website better for an engagement invitation?

A video is good for announcing it on WhatsApp and Status. A website is better when there are several rituals, guests from other cities or replies to collect, because it carries a map and can be corrected after you send it. Many families send both: the video to share, the link for the details.

Can guests RSVP to an engagement invitation online?

On an invitation website, yes: Invity, Shubh Invitation, Wishly, PixerInvite and Invifest collect replies on the link. A card or a video cannot, so guests reply by message or call. Kalyan Co's link has a button that opens a WhatsApp chat with you.

How much does an online engagement invitation cost in India?

On 27 October 2026: free for cards from Canva, Crafty Art, Desievite and Kalyan Co, or Invity's 7-day plan; Rs 149 to Rs 399 for an automated video at Desievite; ₹399 to ₹999 to publish a paid Shubh Invitation design; ₹499 to ₹1,799 for a Wishly invitation made for you; and ₹4,500 for Invifest's Morpankh.

Can I use a wedding invitation design for my engagement?

Often, if the maker lets you change every line. Read every screen for the word wedding, including the opening, the countdown and the reply form, before you send it.

What should an engagement invitation include?

Who is hosting, both names, each ritual with its time, the date and the venue with a map, and whether the wedding date is fixed. Our engagement wording guide has the full list and lines to copy.
